SCOTO Adventures

In August 2025, SCOTO and Wild Skies Shetland Director Catriona Waddington decided to embark on a slow travel adventure – exploring Scotland armed with nothing more than her national bus pass and a passion for community-led tourism.
Inspired by the amazing places in the SCOTO (Scottish Community Tourism Network CIC) Network, Catriona set herself a mission: to visit as many community-owned tourism attractions and services as possible, all while travelling sustainably and at a gentler pace.

With climate consciousness, community spirit, and pure curiosity as her guides, she packed light, took things slow, and discovered what it truly means to be a temporary local wherever she landed.

Ready for your own adventure?

This page chronicles Catriona's journey and shares the tips, discoveries, and local gems she uncovered along the way. Whether you're planning a weekend getaway or a longer exploration, her experiences will inspire you to create your own Be Local trip – one  connects you with Scotland's incredible community-led places and and is kinder to the planet.
